FIRES.
SERIOUS OUTBREAK IN AUCKLAND. Per Press Association. ' Auckland, Last Xurht. A serious blaze occurred on Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock in MumiWiu road, Parnell, when a shop, owned' br J. Gilmour, was practioallv gutted. The fire broke out in a showroom right in the centre of the builiiins;, and the outbreak was confined to the shop, which was built of wood. A grocer's shop was close up on one side, and a private residence on the oilier, but the efforts of the brigade resulted in verv little damage being done to t the adjoining premises. Uilmour's shop, however, was practically burned out.
The damage to the stock is estimated at £2,.J00, and CJilmour will be a heavv loser, as the only insurance is for £I.OOO in the State otlioe. Milinour also owns the property, which is valued at £BOO, and the insurance'is only £350 in the same oll'ice.
How the fire started is a mystery, for there was no sisrn of anything wrong when Gilmonr locked up his .shop for the afternoon at 1 p.m.
