WESTPORT'S WANTS.

GRANT TO SYDNEY SYNDICATE. lVr Press Association. Westport, Lust Night. A large ami representative meeting in the Town Hall to-night decided to urge the Minister to grant a Sydney, syndicate a right over coal-bearing land adjoining the Westport Coal Company'* Dcnnislon urea, from which by ministerial permit the Westport Coal Company lias liben taking coal. There is stated to be si lower seam of coal on this pariicnlav area, and it is the Sydney syndicate's intentions, if rights applied for are granted them, to work it, in conjunction with other coal measures in the Cascade Valley, by a tramway which would run down the valley and connect with the Buller Gorge railway. They anticipate being able on 8-hour shifts to produce 2,500 tons of coal daily on three shifts. It was decided also to urge the Minister of Public Works to speed up the construction of the Buller Corp." railway, as- the revenue from the whole source alone would ensure a handsome profit on its working. .Messrs.
