At the Supreme Court William Benson was acquitted on a charge of firing a-revolver at George Allen, who admitted "improper relations with Benson's wife. Mr. Justice Cooper characterised Allan as a blackguard and entirely devoid of moral sense. • WELLINGTON SESSIONS. Wellington. Last Night. James C4<-~,f~n charged with assaulting Alexander McLean, by stabbing him on the nose with a knife during a street row, was committed for trial to-day. James Henry Sergeant, a young man ■wi.th a long career of crime, especially of jewellery thefts, was sentenced to three months' imprisonment on one charge of theft. Other charges are pending.
