DISTRICT NEWS.
TARATA. (From Our Own Correspondent). The winter so far has been exceedingly severe, and some of the cockatoos are complaining of a shortage of feed, but, as a general rule, most have good supplies. Tarata representatives of the Ingle: wood Saturday football team returned home with rather sorrowful expressions on their faces, with the verdict, "Got beaten by 13 to 3!" What has gone wrong with the Farmers' Union? The last meeting was held some six months ago. Apparently it has become defunct. What has gone wrong with our settlers? One after the other hax sold or is selling out. Mr. A. Bishop Ims been one of the latest to make a move. After him follow Mr. T. Waite, Mr. Jensen, Mr. Phillips and Mr. Marshall, witli a whole list of others following suit, and still these people think they are selling cheap land. What is the cause? The dairy company have at last decided to instal an oil engine, to be used in case the water supply should fail, as it did last season.
By the way, the company expect to report a very successful year, and, by all accounts, an Increased supply is assured for next season.
