THE HUME SEAT. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, June 17. Only 700 votes were counted yesterday at Hume. The leading Liberals are 490 j ahead. Twenty-two hundred votes are ; uncounted. Sir William Lyne has gained nineteen votes. A RECOUNT ORDERED. Melbourne, June 17. A recount has been ordered at Illawarra, where the Laborite's majority is 122. MR, FISHER TO RESIGN. Melbourne, June 17. It is reported that the Federal Ministers have given up hope of Labor capturing the Hume seat. It is expected that Mr. Fisher will tender his resignation today and advise Lord Denham to send for Mr. Cook. FAREWELL INTERVIEWS. Melbourne, June 17. Four Ministers separately interviewed Lord Denman, and though it is given out that no political significance is to be attached to the visits, it is confidently believed that these were farewell visits, and it is expected that Mr. Fisher will tender his resignation to-day and advise Lord Denman to send for Mr. Cook, Lead-' er of the Opposition. ] AMENDING THE ELECTORAL LAW.
