PARIHAKA ROAD BOARD.

(From Our Own Correspondent). The ordinary monthly meeting of the Parihaka Road Board was held on Thursday last. Present: Messrs J. Young (chairman), Harvey, Phillips, Holmes, Cassie and Hickey. The clerk read the usual declaration, declaring Mr, Cassie elected as member for the Warea riding. The chairman introduced Mr. Cassie to the members and welcomed him as a member of the Board, Mr. Young said they would find Mr. Cassie a very suitable man for the position. Mr. Cassie thanked the chairman for his kind remarks and said lie could be relied upon in doing his best for his district, as well as for the whole of the road district. FOREMAN'S REPORT.

The Foreman (J. P. Kennedy) reportel :—Opourapa road: The £l2 granted 1 s been spent in repairs. The road has ' en repaired as far as Mr. Boniface's. From there it will require attention later.

Mr. Simonds asked for repairs to be done to the top of the road. There were two. bad portion about three chains in. length that wanted metalling. It would cost about £lO or £l2. Should the weather be unfavorable he suggested that the work be deferred until the •early summer. At present it would be impossible to do the work satisfactorily on account of the bad state of the road. Re Mr. Fleming's request to open the top portion, the foreman stated that the fences were still on the road. Mr. Thomas was getting posts ready for putting up a new fence. He stated that what was required were two piped culverts and two fillings over swamps, this being all that Mr. Fleming required to make a cattle track.—Resolved that the foreman do the work when convenient. Rahotu Road: This road had been repaired with gravel. Manihi road: This had been repaired from the Main road to Mr. Sales' and culverts opened up. Lower Arawhata road: Seventy-six yards of broken stone had been Carted out and' put on the road for repairs. The road would now be in good order for the winter, with the exception of a small unmetalled portion, about 3>/, chains. This he asked if, it would be" possible to have metalled. Ngariki road: This road had been repaired as far as broken metal was available. He would make further repairs as soon as possible. Stent road: Mr. Revel! had carted out 52 yards of boulder stone. This would be used for repairs. Burgess road: Mr. Ay 1 ward had cleaned out 12 chains of drain at half cost. Ihaia road: Mr. J. 0. Hickey had cleaned out U chains of drain fronting his section. This was very much required, as the water was continually flowing over the road. It had cost 3s per chain. The £5 granted to the top portion had been spent in forming and metalling the portion reported on. Messrs O'Brien, Wan and Robertson were doing good work and supplying teams and men. Lower Waiteika road: This road was very much cut up on account of firewood carting some time back. The settlers had offered to cart out metal free, and lie was getting stone ready for them to do so. Newall road; The work agreed to by Mr. Julian had been done; also the poVtion where the road was being fenced off had been done by Mr. Julian for £5. He had received 5 tons of chaff from Mr. Hill. He had to report an accident on Friday, May 10, to K. Knofflock, who had fallen! off a load of chaff. He would be off work for a considerable time yet. j

J \TEREKIXO ROAD. j A letter was received from the clerk asking for the loan money, £3OO or a j portion of it, as the fund for the payI ment of wages was exhausted, j On the motion of Mr. Cassie, seconded by -Mr. Hickey, the sum of .£3OO was I passed, to he paid to the Werekino Road I Board account. LOAX MOXEY. I On the motion of Mr. Holmes, it was decided to place loan money into the general account to save interest. AKAWHATA ROAD. A letter was received from Bartle Bros., statin"; that the upper portion of the road was in a had state. They made an oiler to put on gravel (at the'discretion of the Board) at 2s (id per yard; or if the Board were agreeable, to put a man on for spreading. They would do the work at 2s per yard. Mr. Holmes said that, with the 'exception of a few had holes, the top end was better than the-lower. Something! would have to he done to the road right through. Me said . that most of the settlers were prepared to go in for a special loan for a period of two years. The chairman suggested that the portion of the rood used by the milk carts { 1;' repaired, and Mr. ilolmes and the fi ;i ;.'!iian should interview Mr. Bartle Willi a view to making arrangements regarding the upper portion,—This was agreed to. . .

Mi-. Phillips moved tliat the road be put in order, the amount not to exeedd £4o.—Seconded by Mr. Holmes and carried.

The usual accounts were passed for payment.
