It is reported from the Bay of Plenty that an extraordinary series of earthquakes have been prevalent in the district during the last week in .May. A resident of Te Teko states that on May 2li the shocks were particularly severe, ctt using most of the residents to rush out of their houses. The shocks continued for some time, and many chimcracked so badly that people ran outside as soon as a shock commenced for fear of the bricks coming through the roof. • The earthquakes had been felt daily for nearly a month, but were not nearly so severe as those experienced later. At night the residents had a particularly trying time, many going to bed only partially undressed with coats and shoes ready to snatch up as soon as a 'quake commenced.
