HOTEL THIEVES.
OPERATING AT WAITARA. Several of the guests at the Club Hotel, Waitara, found an unpleasant surprise in the shape, of einpty pockets; waiting for them on Saturday morning.. Several lost money from their clothes, and one was minus his watch and chain. On further investigation, it was found' that two young men, who had taken a room together on Friday night, had' made a quick get away. A representative of this paper also passed Friday night at the hotel; but was fortunate in being left out of the thieves' itinerary. He was informed that the suspected persons were two respectablelooking young men, who had taken a room together, and the pressman's informant had occupied a third bed inthe same rodm, although the men were ' stranger,s to him. He sajd. that his; two companions: played cards till hour, -and had apparently/ been quarrel* * ■ % Img,; oyer the Igairife: \ in the Inorfanr >' < they were gone, and.so was a-fair quantity of loose silver. Strangely enough,. ■ , the third occupant of the room had lost ' nothing. The proprietor of the hotel says that the men were strangers tohim. He considers that the losers were him. He onagers that' the losers were partly to blame in leaving money loose* m their clothing, lying on 1 the floor. Doubtless police investigations will follow.
