HARNESSING THE RIVERS.
THE LAKE COLERIDGE SCHEME. Per Press Association. Cliristchnveh. Last Night. The machinery for the. hydro-electrical installation at Like Coleridge, which is being landed at present from the s.s. Coiirtficld, represents a. total value of close upon £13,000. To-day a start was made with the work of forwarding it to the site of the works ,at Lake Coleridge. It is being taken by train to Coalgate, and from that town by traction engine to the lake. To-day six transformer tanks were despatched to Coalgate, and six were sent out to the sub-station and distributing point, at present under construction at the Addington Railway Workshops. A further shipment of machinery is enuring to hand by the steamer Braunfels. which is expected at Lyttelton about the 20th inst, The foundations of t'ne sub-station at the Addington Workshops are being put- in. At present negotiations are in progress between the Public Works Department and the Christcliurch Tramway Board, in respect to the Department supplying, the Board with current for tramway purposes. It is hoped that sOme detinite proposals from the Department will he ready for'submission to the Board at an early date.
