A distinct earthquake shock was experienced here at 7."4 o'clock to-night. HOSPITAL CHARGES. > Wellington, Last Night. The. Hospital. Committee to-day discussed a recommendation to increase the charge to patients from 30s to 35s weekly, bringing it into line with Dunediu and Auckland charges. The proposal met with a good deal of opposition, opinion being expressed that the patientsshould be classified, and the minimum charge fixed at 30s. It was urged that many people were unable to pay even 30s, while others could afford to pay more, and should do so. The recommendation was referred back to the, Souse Committee.

JUDGMENT RESERVED. Wanganui, Last Night. Mr. Justice .Chapman this evening reserved judgment in the case concerning the custody of the child Thelma Gilberd. AN INJUDICIOUS CHARGE. During the hearing of an award case to-day a witness for the defence alleged that the Inspector of Awards had acted oppressively, and said later that such was the general opinion of the employers of iAuekland. Mr. Kettle, 5.M.,-commented somewhat strongly upon the allegation, remarking that witness should not make such remarks. The officers bad their duty to perform, and he had seen no indication that the official in question was oppressive. If witness had any complaint to make, he should make it in the proper quarter, and the Department would look into it. He was surprised that any citizen of standing should make such an accusation.
