PATEA FREEZING CO.
A (!OOD YEAR. In spite of tlie fact tlmt for something like five weeks the works were practically shut down owing to the slaughtermen's strike, the Patea Farmers' Cooperative Freezing Company have had a record year and with no less than four months yet to go they have far and away exceeded the records of any previous year (reports the Press). When the final returns for the year are made up, tlie figures should prove very acceptable to the shareholders of the company, and in particular to those who have stuck to the institution through thiek and thin.
The progress made by the institution is shown by a comparison of the present season's figures with those of last year, and last year it must be remembered was one of the most successful tho company had had for some time. Duringthe 12 months ending October last tljjetotal stock slaughtered was: Cattle,. 4700; sheep, lfl.l-i.l; calves, 032. For; the eight months ending May 31, oftlio present year, the total of the stock put through the works was: Cattlfe ,T144;• sheep, 45,100; calves, 053. Tlie year's: work has served to show that the> expectations. formed with regard to theworkij bv the chairman when appealing to -farmers for their support some months ago, have been more than justified, and the directors and their staff have emerged triumphant after a strenuous struggle against a varietv of circumstances.
