♦ | A CONSTABLE'S GRIEVANCE. Per Presa Association. Greymouth, June 11. Constable Smith has received notice of his dismissal from the police force. He was recently transferred to Greymouth from Auckland, allegedly on account of his efforts on behalf of the Police Association. The constable explained to a Star reporter, that he was on the wharf watching timber trucks on account of the reported thefts of timber. He mistook the time for five o'clock and at four a.m. went to the station and signed the book. He was reported to headquarters and will be dismissed on Saturday next for leaving his duty and making a false entry in the book. A SCOW ASHORE. Nelson, June 11. Kfftf three-masted scow Maroro, 230 tons, owned by the Union Box and Packing Company, of Sydney, is ashore at the eastern entrance to Pelorus Sound. The Nikau is standing by. There are hopes that the vessel will refloat at full tide. A BICYCLE THIEF. Gisborne, June 11. James Lester, with seven, aliases, pleaded guilty to stealing a bicycle at Feilding,'' and was sentenced to six months' imprisonment.
