TARIFF REFORM. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 10, 10.45 p.m. Ottawa, June 10. The Government is planning a revision of the tariffs, to which the next session will be largely devoted. The West is largely free trade, and the Eastern provinces are protectionists. It is hoped to secure a tariff satisfactory to both, but it is doubtful whether British preference i will be increased. The Cabinet is undecided on the subject. A NEW ZEALAND VISITOR. SPEECH BY SIR W. BUCHANAN. Received 11, 12.20 a.m. ' Vancouver, June 10. Sir Walter Buchanan, speaking at a '•anquet on the s.s. Niagara, said that the eceasion marked the development of a great Pacific trade. He realised'the realities of the country while passing through Canada to Vancouver from Montreal. When at home he would advise all to take a trip through the wonderful country. All parts of the Empire must share in protecting the Empire's trader He was sure that Canada's heart was as. true to the Empire as New Zealand's, and that when the opportunity came Canada would not be found wanting, but would stand for the integrity of the Empire as in the Boer war.
