DAIRY PRODUCE.
THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION.
THE NEW CONTRACT. FASTER BOATS WANTED. Per Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. As the result of a complaint at the annual meeting, of the Chamber of Commerce about the alleged unfairness of the National Dairy Association's shipping contract for produce, some interesting discussion is probable at the annual meeting of the Association this month. Exporters who object to the attitude of the Association, have issued a circular to dairy factories pointing out that serious defects exist under the present system, and that before a new contract was entered into, the shipping companies promised to consult all the export houses as well as the Dairy Association, with a view to protecting all important interests concerned. Instead, it is understood that the companies and the Association made additions to the old contract, but the particulars are not available. Exporters contend that such an important matter should not be finally arranged without full and open discussion at the Palmerston conference. Reference is also made to the unsatisfactory nature of the coastal shipping facilities for dairy produce, and exporters declare that the agreement should not be ratified without the clauses being fully discussed, so tliat exporters and factories, may be fully protected. The term of the contract, five ycarjL is also considered too long, as.pther freight opportune ties may offer in the next two or three years. Faster boats and more prompt delivery, it is urged, should be insisted upon.
