MR. ALLEN.

THE WOMEN'S WELCOME. Per Press Association. Auckland. Last Night. • A large and enthusiastic meeting, under the auspices of the Women's Branch Reform League, welcomed Mr.' Allen home in the Town Hall to-night. Among those present were Messrs. Massey, Rhodes, Berries and Dr. Pomare, and several district Members of Parliament; In speaking, Mr. Allen traversed the financial operations in London, and contended that the credit of the country now stood higher than ever. With regard to defence, he said that he could say nothing at present, but a statement would be made shortly by Mr. Massey. The country, would, he felt sure, be ready to shoulder its responsibilities and do its part in Empire defence on sea-and land.
