The beef interests have petitioned thr ; Senate and the Finance Committee, protesting against the lowering of the duty on meats, and- deciding .that such an attempt to kill the beef - morc 4ikely~ t to increase the trust's control of meat.

The petitioners favored a 15 per cent, nil valorem duty on'all meats; aiid live stocks, in order to prevent the decay.; Of the industry.
