A private cablegram from Capetown, received in London, states that General De Wet has had a paralytic stroke. The death occurred at Nelson yesterday of Mrs. W. J. Glasgow, a very ol<P resident, aged 82.—Press Association.!
Miss E. F. Mace has resigned her position- as, typiste of the Taranaki County ■Council. The vacancy in the office wiir not be filled for the present.
Mr. W. W. Staith, curator of the Pukieikura Park, has now sufficiently recovered from the effects of his recent accident to resume his usual duties.
The Chairman of the Taranaki County ' Council (Mr. ,T. Brown) has been ap- * pointed the Council's representative at the proposed conference of/the Counties' Association to be held in Wellington shortly.
■ Mr. C W. Govett, who leaves on Tuesday next by the Athenic on a trip to the Old Country, was last night, at the meeting of the Pukekura Park Board, granted six months' leave of ab; sence. The Board wished Mr. Govett a pleasant holiday and a safe return.
A small presentation was made yesterday to Mr: J. C. Webster by merchants and travellers as an appreciation of his services to them and the public generally whilst agent for the Northern Steamship Company at this port. Included in the presentation was a haiut- \ some address, neatly bound in leather.
Lieutenant-Colonel Malone, officer commanding tlie lltK Regiment Taranaki Rifles, arrived in Now Plymouth by last night's mail train. This/morning he will inspect the A atul B .companies o{ the lltli Regiment and companies of senior cadets, the p.ifade taking place in the Recreation Sports Ground at 9.30. o'clock.
