DISTRESSING STRIKES.
WOMEN AND CHILDREN SUFFER,

London, June 2. Thirty thousand workers connected with the Engineering and Allied Trades' Federation are idle in the Black Country, in the Midlands, owing to strikes against low wagQs.
The Metropolitan Carriage Works at Birmingham have locked out 5600 hands, because 500 struck. There is< much suffering among the women and children.
