King George will pay a visit to the Czar of Russia this summer. A cable states that the King has invested Lord Islington with the Grand ('ross of St. Michael. The appointment of conductor of the Wellington Musical Union has been accepted by Mr. Carl Sauer. A cable states that the London University has conferred the degree of Doctorship of Science upon Mr. F. P. Worley, of Auckland. A telegram from Tauranga states that Captain Way, a veteiran of the Maori war, was found dead in his house on Thursday. He was seventy-one year* of age. The resignation of Dr. Slater, medical officer in charge of the Kaikoura, Hospital, was received by the North Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board last week. Dr. Slater will leave I the Kaikoura district shortly.

Mr. W. G. Garrard, who lately resigned from the secretaryship of the Canterbury Rugby Union, after being nineteen years in office, on Friday night received a silver tea and coffee service from the Canturbury footballers, in appreciation of his work.

The death occurred at Invercargill yesterday, of Robert F. Cuthbertson, aged 73, a very old resident of Southland and for many years secretary of the Southland A. and P. Association. He recently retired from that position ow!n«r to ill health and advancing age, and his end was not unexpected. The funeral of the late Mr. Symon Forsyth took place at Pihama on Friday afternoon, the Rev. Mr. Walsh officiating at the services in the house and at the graveside. The chief mourners were deceased's five sons and four daughters, and included in a large and representative attendance were Mr C. A. Wilkinson, M.P., and members of all the local bodies, .dairy factories, Farmers' Union, Farmers' Mutual Fire Office, and the school children of Pihama, in charge of the headmaster, the late„Mr,;, Forsyth having been chairman of the committee for over 20 years. Others in attendance included representative* from the whole of Taranaki.—Eltham Argus.
