Upon being discovered by the occupant of the dwelling that he had broken into, the roliber knocked the householder down, and then took refuge in a cellar. Armed with a revolver and plentifully supplied with ammunition, the ruflian fired at everyone who attempted to approach him. Even after the police had been summoned, it was found impossible to either capture him or to induce him to surrender. The fire brigade was i>t last summoned, and the cellar flooded. When the water reached his shoulders, and he saw that he must inevitably be drowned, the desperado put the revolver to bis head and shot himself.
