FOOTBALL.

SENIORS. TUKAPA (C) V. CLIFTOX (NIL). Little need be said in comment on the Clifton-Tukapa match played on the Western Park yesterday afternoon. The first spell was wholly uninteresting with the expection of two brilliant goals by Stohr. It was thought that when Clifton had a spell with the wind at their backs, that Tukapa, with a six-point lead, would have their work cut OW to. win. As it turned out, however, Tukapa had all the best of the second spell, notwithstanding the fact that right through the game Clifton's champions, Cain and Bernste.a, secured the ball from almost every scrum. In the closing stages, Tukapa played a very dashing game, and treated the spectators to a delightful exhibition of clever, snappy passing. They had hard luck in not scoring, the second spell failing to alter the position attained in the first I'alf.

Brown returned Clifton's kick-off to half way. Hawkins broke away on the line out, but Clifton found touch, ' a free kick against Tukapa further improving their position. Then Brown marked, and Stohr had an ineffectual shot at goal. Crowley secured a Tu-, kapa man's kick, arid put iu a splendid line kick, Clifton attacking until LoverIdge marked, and Kupe failing to secure play centred at half-way. Stohr transferred to Cade, but the pass was faulty. Cade secured from the scrum and Kupe, ran strongly, passing to Tate, whose lob pass to the three-quarter gave the Tukapa backs a chance to collar Goodwin. Cade broke away with the ball at toe and found touch. A snappy passing rush by Tukapa saw Cade s pass to iStohr unaccepted, Clifton kicking to touch. From a free kick near half-way, Stohr kicked a magnificently judged goal. Tukapa 3* Clifton 0

Bullot returned the kick-off to touch, J twenty yards from his line. Clifton marked, and Goodwin essayed a difficult shot at goal, which failed to eventuate. L. Whitaker marked, when the Clifton vanguard, led by Cain, were pressing hard. Cain again was battling hard, a free kick relieving the home team. Clifton were getting the 'ball from every scrum, but were not making good use of their opportunities. Brown and Hawkins put in some splendid work, the former playing a dashing game. W. Whitaker's kick to touch was half stopped, and rebounded over the line, Waka forcing. Clifton collapsed suddenly, but Off-side play by Tukapa relieved the situation. A penalty to Tukapa, and Stohr's kick went to the right of the posts, where Morsehead nearly scored, Clifton forcing. Crowley eluded the opposing vanguard, and put the ball out in Tukapa's twenty-five. Howitson, kicking splendidly, kept his forwards on the attack. Tukapa, however, returned' to the charge, when a long kick resulted ; in another force by Waka. Clifton were in the home team's territory, but Stohr sent them back, with a line kick that travelled half the length of the field. '. Cade secured, and kicked for Loveridge to secure, but Goodwin marked cleverly. J From a line-out McAllum marked, and I from mid-field Stohr put- in a tine low J kick, which passed between the uprights. I Tukapa 6 Clifton .• 0 Howitson saved when Hawkins, McAllum, and Morsehead were making the pace hot. Two marks by Tukapa saw: Stohr after failing with the first, put a second attempt from past half-way, dangerously close to the posts. Clifton had the advantage of an exchange of marks, and play settled down at halfway, where Clifton were awarded a free. Half-time sounded, when Cade kicked in ' a Tukapa passing rush, Goodwin finding J touch. ] Tukapa G i Clifton 0 I

On.resuming, Clifton attacked,strong-' ]y, but ofr-side work brought ..play back j to half-way, wiiere Brown made a good run, cutting in nicely, till stopped by Kupe. Brown picked up, and passed t"p Stohr, Waka finding the line. Goodwin took a beautiful mark, but Cain punted too hard, and Loveridge forced. Crowley set his 'backs going nicely from the scrum, Kupe, Goodwin and Tate handling, but nothing was gained, the last named being promptly stopped by Loveridge. Tukapa for once got the ball, and Brown passed to Stohr, who beat two men badly and kicked. Loveridge secured, but liis pass to Cade was erratic. Stohr again secured, but in following up the kick the whistle blew, and Clifton were awarded a free kick. Clifton were attacking strongly when McAllum picked up the ball off Crowley's toe, .and raced down the field in possession. Better following up by the other Tukapa forwards might have' brought off a try. A beautiful piece of play came when Brown cut in twice, and passed to Cade, who transferred to Loveridge. Loveridge was neck and neck with Goodwin, and might have scored, but he did the right thing in passing to Whittaker, whose pace was not sufficient to carry him over, Goodwin stopping the rasli. A second later Loveridge took a kick on the wing, and raced for the line. He was well collared, however, and his pass infield was not accepted. Tukapa kept at it, and Stohr intercepting, ran to halfway. Kupe half stopped him, and Goodwin secured the ball kicked to touch. Then W. Whitaker nearly scored from ■a' line out, a scrum resulting. Stohr picked up and sent a hot low pass to Cade, who took it beautifully, and ran half through the Clifton team, Stohr later made a brillian run, and a certain try was spoiled by a wild forward pass bv Jull. Here Clifton had a turn on the attack, and Cade was pushed into touch-in-goal. Give and take play followed, the whistle soanding with' the score unchanged. Mr. Spurdle was referee. ,:v '"J"*"'- ■ " ,r '"v ELTHAM V. STRATFORD. ' Eltham forfeited to Stratford.
