THEATRE ROYAL PICTURES. The Royal Pictures will again occupy the theatre to-night, when a grand fi'm selection will be screened. The new programme is headed by a long, drama usubject, "The Black feheep," a story th v commences in England and continues ii. the wild Canadian territory, and introduces some of the most excitin" incidents ever depicted in motion pictures I'he photography is excellent, and the intense power of the plot holds the onlooker thoroughly interested right to the closing scene. A film of Bpecml interest to ail local swimming enthusiasts is "Fancy Swimming,' depicted many novel and humorous scenes by expert performers. The supporting dramas include an S. and A. film "The Reward for Broncho "Bill' and a sensational Cosmo drama "Through the Flames." There are also several comic items to enliven the proceedings.

, EMPIRE PICTURE PALACE. The reputation of the management lost nothing by the programme presented to an appreciative audience last night. Comedy and tragedy, pathos and the ludicrous, flashed on the screen and kept the audience without a dull moment. ''A Shiek's Jealousy" was one of the best of the numerous star dramas, and its portrayal of the savage Bedouin and the (unhappy plight of a Greek girl Miriam, who is captivated to adorn the harem of an Arab sheik, left nothing to be desired in its realism, and force. /I'he unfortunate woman finds a friend in a war correspondents who shelters in the Arab's house, and by him she, is eventu ally rescued after several hair-raising incidents. "Love on Touc-h. Luck Ranch" •is the funniest thing yet IshoWn, n'nd the sight of an eloping couple pursued by the father pf the gjrl ayd .an aged candidate for her mind,. Who has her father's backing, is a laugh from start to finish. The supporting, .programme is in keeping with these two fine films. THE BUTTERFLIES. The butterflies had another good house at the"Theatre Royal last night, when they submitted an entirely new programme, with the exception of a few popular items, repeated'-by special request. The Hungarian Orchestra again proved irresistible, and the applause was long* and sustained. To-morrow the ''Butterflies" migrate to Hawera, carrying with them the 'good wishes- of the many friends they have made here in an all too brief visit 'to New Plymouth.
