FURNITURE SHOP BURNED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Greymouth, Thursday. Schaeff's furniture .shop was destroyed by fire this morning and the Royal Hotel adjoining damaged to the extent of £4OO. The insurances were: Schaeff, £I2OO on the stock and £4OO on the building in the Atlas Office; Royal Hotel, £3500 on the building and £1250 on the furniture and stock in several offices . A CHARGE OF ARSON. Nelßon, Last Night. On the 7th inst. a cottage at Stoke, owned by William Best and occupied by A young man named Herbert Whitford, was destroyed by fire. The building was not insured, but Whitford had a policy in the United office on his effects—£4o on furniture, etc., and £35 on a motor bicycle, which was destroyed. The circumstances of the fire were considered guch as to warrant an enquiry, which concluded to-day, when the coroner found that the cottage had been wilfully get on fire by Whitford. Whitford was arrested on a charge of arson and remanded until Friday, bail being allowed.
