London, May 21. he Society of Arts was. crowded.when Sir Joseph Ward delivered an illustrated 'lecture on -New Zealand as a place of -residence. He dealt exhaustively with every feature of his subject, also social legislation, trade> improved communications, and sport. Lord Brassey paid a tribute to New Zealand's share of defence, mentioning the donors' present satisfaction in in•pecting the battleship. The Hon. Thos. Mackenzie and Lord Plunket niade felicitous speeches.
