HOSPITAL BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. At the monthly meeting of the Taranaki Hospital and Charitable Aid Board held yesterday, the following were present: —Messrs. R C. Bellringer (chairman). M. J. Macßeynolds, D. H. McDonald, E. Maxwell, G, Browne, J. Brown, D. McAllum, J. R. Hill, and Mrs. Dockrill:
PUBLIC HEALTH. The inspector (Mr. A. H. Kendall) reported that during the past month three cases of scarlet fever had- been notified in the district. In one of these cases the disease was really a suspected case only, but all necessary precautions were taken. During the month two cases of phthisis had been sent to the annexe, both being recent arrivals' in the Dominion, one'of the patients arriving so recently as March 0, 1913, and the other a few months earlier. He had made full enquiries into both of these cases and reported thereon to the Public Health Department in Wellington. He had also made inspection of many premises where food was prepared and sold in the district, and in accordance with instructions from Wellington, he was making an inspection of -the drainage and sanitary arrangements of all general and private hospitals in the district. He liad also made careful investigations into an alleged case of scarlet fever in the borough of New Plymouth, and other inspections in Inglewood and Waitara.
OTHER REPORTS. Dr. Walker reported that during April 3(i patients had been admitted to the Hospital, 3(> discharged and 3 had died, leaving 34 now in the institution. Twenty-seven operations had 'been performed during the month. The matron of the Old People's House (Mrs. Bayly), in her monthly report stated that the discipline at the Home during the past month lmd been excellent. There had been 2 admissions, 3 depairtiires' and 3 deaths, .leaving now in the; Home 28 males and 5 females. UIIUTI NURSING HOME. Correspondence was received from Dr. Valintine. Inspector-General, who stated that he had examined the plan of the proposed nurse's cottage at Uruti and proposed certain minor additions. He .thought the board' would concur with him that it would be as well to make a good job of the work now the' members had decided to take it in hand. A letter \vds also received from Mr. Wm. Old, secretary of the subscribers' committee, who asked what steps the Board was taking to have the building erected. He stated that it was now two months since the contributions were sent in, and the committee had threfore hoped.to have the building erected before this. Tenders will be called for the erection of the home . . GENERAL.
It was decided to print the Board's annual balance-sheet, but to circulate a copy of the document among the contributing authorities. ill's. Doekrill was appointed to the House Committee vice Mr. C'utfield.
Mr. A. E. Sadler was appointed gardener at the hospital and Mr. A. Fairs to the position of warder, on condition that the chairman is satisfied with the applicant. The following accounts were passed for payment:—Hospital £so(> 7s Sd, Charitable Aid Board £175 17s Sd, making a total of £OB2 5s 4d.
