ENTERTAINMENTS.

"THE BUTTERFLIES." The much-looked-forward-to season of 'The Butterflies" commences at the Theatre Royal this evening at 8 o'clock. It is some time since such a talented combination toured the Dominion, and the interest aroused in its visit is considerable. All the members of the troupe are well known to New Plymouth amusement lovers, by reason of their fame—a fact which adds considerably to the visit. Speaking of the opening programme in Wellington the Evening Post says:—"A hopeful phenomenon of the latter day business of amusing the public, especially in view of the aggrandisement of the movingpicture show, is the astonishing success of what might be called drawing room vaudevilles. The latest comers are 'The Butterflies,' who opened their season here in the Opera House on Saturday night with much eclat, creating a most favourable impression among the large audience. They more than justified the high expectations created by the preliminary announcements of their apnea ranee, and one feels safe in prophesying a good time for them in Wellington. There are seven Butterflies, all artists to their finger tips. It is seldom such a galaxy of talent is seen here gathered in so small a compass. The King of 'The Butterflies' is ■undoubtedly Mr. Jack Waller, a comedian of genuine originality, and Vithal the composer of a good many items in the company's repertoire. The opening scene, with its background of dark curtains decorated with butterflies, one of them of chameleonic change of colour, and the butterII v costumed company, took the eye at once." The box-plan is on view at Collier's.
