BOROUGH COUNCIL.

ADJOURNED MEETING. An a'djourned meeting of the New Plymouth Borough Council was held on Monday evening to adopt the estimates for the coming year. His Worship the Mayor (Mr. U. W. Browne), presided over a full attendance of councillors with the exception of Councillor Collis. THE ESTIMATES.' The Estimates Committee recommended: . that in view of the urgent works which have, to be undertaken this year the Council could, not see its way to adopt the recommendation of the Carnegie Institute to furnish the necessary funds to provide for a' catalogue for the Library. The committee further recommended that the following subsidies be granted: —Western Park Board £SO, Library £IOO, Band (subject to six municipal concerts being given) £2O, also that a subsidy be granted to the Board of Trustees appointed under The Taraiiaki Botanic Garden Act, 1870, of such a sum which, together with the share of revenue payable to the said Trustees under Section 4 of "The New Plymouth (Recreation, and Racecourse Reserve Amendment, 1910," shall amount to'the sum of £lso^_ The estimates for" the year were as follows:

Ambury moved' as an amendment "That a subsidy of £25 a, rear be paid to the Technical School." 'The amendment was lost by seven votes to five. A further amendment that a subsidy of £175 be voted to the Recreation Grounds Board was also lost on a division. The motion was then carried. GENERAL.

Tt was decided to inform the Taranaki County Council that if the Council can obtain the consent of the Auditor-Gen-eral to the payment, the Council will pay the Hospitable and Charitable Aid levy for the year ended March 31, 1013. on the "Moa and Huvworth areas merged into the boron<rli on March 31, 1912. An application from Messrs. Sanderson and Griffiths for the extension of the nloctric li.irlit mains to Frankley read was referred to the chairman of the Electric Light Committee (Councillor J. Clarke) with power to act.
