WHITE SLAVE TRAFFIC.
A POLITICAL DENIAL. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Melbourne, May 20. The police stoutly deny the statements of Dr. Rcntoul, Moderator of the Presbyterian Assembly, that the white slave traffic is rampant in Melbourne. The Chief Commissioner declares that officers had lately been specially detailed to enquire, and had reported that they could find nothing wrong. He thought he could authoritatively state that the traffic did not exist.
