THE WINTER SHOW.

The Taranaki''Poultry; Pigeon and Canary Society, .which is incorporated with the Agricultural Society, is holding its annual exhibition in conjunction with 1 the Winter Show. Present indications are that all previous records will be beaten, especially as many of the most prominent and successful breeders and exhibitors from outside have signified their intention of sending along their best birds. A handsome donation to the show is that of Mr. S. J. Smith, who has presented this section witli a five-guinea challenge cup, to be awarded to the best bird in the show. The trophy lias to be won three times by the same owner, not necessarily in succession, before becoming the property of the winner. In addition, the society itself is giving gold medals for the best bird exhibited in several of the sections, and there are also other casli specials. Entries for this section close on May 31, with the secretary, at 9 p.m., hut intending exhibitors are asked to forward entries before this j date if possible, in order to facilitate the secretarial work, {

Under the auspices of the Winter Show, the Sheep Dog Trial Club will hold its first meeting .on June 12 and 13, the site selected being'the grounds of Mr. Cassidy, at Prankleigh Park. These trials are particularly interesting, and the property which Mr. Cassidy has kindly placed at the disposal of the committee is admirably suited for the purpose, both from a working point of view and also so far as the spectators are concerned. Valuable cash prizes are being offered, and in addition numerous special prizes have been, donated, including a silver cup and several handsome gold medals. Most of the leading dog trial men of the surrounding districts have promised their support, and it is confidently anticipated that the initial gathering of the club will be a great success.
