SENSATIONAL RUNAWAY.
A MAM SERIOUSLY INJURED. \ By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Saturday. ' A sensational runaway occurred tliis morning at Eden Terrace. Two horsest in a four-wheeled waggon bolted, and j the driver, who was Tunning behind and. hanging on to the reins, could not con-, trol the animals. An employee of tbq, Eden Terrace Road Board, named Smith, attempted to seize the animals by the head, but his arm got jammed between the trace and one of the horses, and ho j was dragged for fltty yards. He was able ' to keep his feet, but was kicked by a horse when he became disentangled andt fell under the front wheels, which passed over him, and he was dragged, some distance in front of the back wheels, * which were locked. The unfortunate man, who is married with .wo children, was found to have sustained fourbroken ribs, besides terrible»internal injuries. His condition is regarded as critical. - The horses were stopped by the driver ' without further harm being done.
