R. McNab, D. Buick, arid the Mayor of Palmerston. The following motion was carried: "That the meeting desires to place on record its high appreciation of the services rendered to the officers of the service by the executive committee and president during the recent critical period, and now, on theverge of this new district being formed, desires to take the opportunity of assuring them of continued loyalty and un-; abated confidence in the Association as' at present constituted." A SOLICITOR'S BANKRUPTCY. \ Timaru, Last Night. '. The first adjourned meeting of the: creditors of Walter Shaw, solicitor and' land speculator, to-day was largely at-" tended. Bankrupt presented an amended; list of creditors, making a total of' £41,147, reducible by surplus of securities to £29,144. The assets were put at £42,000, which would leave a surplus? of over £12,000. These figures have not. yet been checked, but the solicitor for one party declared that they were not, worth the paper they were written 0n... In one case, he pointed out, £15,000 was ; put down as the profit from one set of properties handed back to the estate by the recent purchasers, who had not expected to make more than £SOOO out of them if the prices kept up. Another solicitor said that he knew of large creditors who had not yet proved, and that the debts would be more like £50,000. Three supervisors and an accountant were appointed, and the meeting agreed to give Mrs. Shaw her wedding presents, and the furniture.
