WORK AND WAGES.
THE TIMAEU TROUBLE. PLENTY OF FREE LABOR AVAILABLE. By Telegraph—.eress Association. Timaru, Last Night. A number of unionists turned up to work the steamer John this morning. After the dinner-hour five of them asked the agent if he was aware that nonunionists were at work. The agent said he was not concerned with that question. Four of the five knocked off, but the fifth returned to work, saying that he needed the money. The places of the four were promptly filled by free men. The meat ship Kia Ora is due to-mor-row or the next day, and curiosity exists as to whether the unionists, will offer to work her. If not there are plenty of free men about. Some Of these expressed annoyance that the unionists were employed this morning. Both freezing works are sufficiently manned to see the season through, and some of the unionist butchers have gone elsewhere. THE PLUMBERS' BOARD. Dunedin, Last Night. The election of the representative of the journeymen plumbers of the Dominion on the Plumbers' Board set up under the Plumbers' Registration Act of 1912, has just been completed. Schon (Christchurch), F. Swindells (Dunedin), and H. Thompson (Wellington). The ballot resulted in the election of J. Clark by a substantial majority.
