THE NEW HEBRIDES.

SYSTEM OF COXBQMIXIUM ROTTEN.

JJy Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Syidaey, May 14. The Presbyterian Assembly carried a resolution expressing regret at the continuance of abuses in the New Hebrides tinder the condominium, ajjd asking the Australian and Imperial Governments to take steps to stop these injustices. Speakers reiterated the charges against the French of selling liquor to the native* wholesale, kidnapping them and beating them almost to death, and selling natives to one another. The French coukl not make thair subjects keep the law. No matter what was the decision of the joint commission, it could only be enforced by Government officials of the .offending party. The Rev. F. Paton declared the system of condominium to be rotten throughout, and that it was a disgrace to Britain to have had anything to do with it. Years ago missionaries could leave their wives at the islands and feel that they were safe, but since the French had sold grog to the natives, white women were no longer safe.
