NAPIER HARBOR BOARD.
A DISPUTED ELECTION. By Telegraph—Press Association. Hastings, Tuesday. A petition, objecting to +he election of Mr. Eustace Lane, as a representative of the Hastings Borough, oil the Napier Harbour Board has been lodged at the Magistrate's Courthouse. The grounds of the objection are ,1) that Mr. Lane was not eligible for re-elec-tion, inasmuch as his name was not on the electoral roll for such district; (2) that the returning officer did n.)t comply with the Local Elections f.nd Tolls Act, 1008, inasmuch as he failed to recount all voting papers handed Him by I the deputy returning officers, :tnd scrutinise marked rolls before declaring the official results; (3) that the returning officer, in giving the public 1 otice, required by section Seven of the Local Elections and Polls Act, 1908, failed to appoint a day not more than seven days (exclusive of the day of the clfction) before the election for the .nomination, of candidates; (4) that votes were counted in favour of Mr. Eustace Lane, such votes being informal an I 111,' recording of such votes ufTeetsd (lie result of the poll. Petitioners say that Mr. Lane was not duly elected, and the election was void.
