Sentence was deferred in the ease of Albeit Jennings, found guilty of stealing a Mt'» bicycle. Thos. Sterling pleaded not guilty to a charge of having stolen thirteen fishing nets, valued at £29 ss. Th*V jury returned a verdict of guilty, with a strong recommendation to mercy, on the following grounds: (1) Of previousgood character, and (2) that the prisoner J originally took the nets without intending to deprive the owner of them, but J afterwards in assisting, to conceal them" l ' he was actuated by the fear of the con- J sequences.
