THE NEW HEBRIDES.

A MISSIONARY'S SUGGESTION. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. ■ - Sydney, May 12. The Rev. F. Paton, son of the famous pioneer missionary of the New Hebrides, and himself a missionary there, declares that there is only one satisfactory way of solving the problem of the control of the islands, namely, buying out the French interests. He estimates that it would cost from £250,000 to £300,000. The expenditure should be regarded as ci the nature of insurance, since the group in its present condition constitutes a positive menace to Australia. Japanese and Tonquinese are pouring into New Guinea, whence they can easily go to the New Hebrides, lie suggests that Australia and New Zealand should combine in the acquisition of the group.
