ESCAPED PRISONERS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Saturday. Some time during last night Patrick Donovan, alias Thomas Donovan, and John Lewis escaped from the "Terrace Gaol, and are still at large. Donovan was serving a sentence of three years for assault and robbery at Wellington. Lewis, who also escaped from the same gaol last year, was twice declared an habitual criminal. DESERTING SEAMEN. Gishorne, Saturday. Two seamen, charged with deserting the New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Waimate at Auckland on February 10, were arrested here and remanded till Monday, pending instructions from Auckland. THE AKAROA ASSAULT. Christchurch, Saturday. John Hitchock, who assaulted his sister with a razor at Akaroa recently, and subsequently attempted to commit suicide, Was charged with attempted murder to-day. He was remanded, counsel saying that application would be made to have Hitchcock committed to a mental hospital. FINED FOR ASSAULT. Wellington, Saturday. Three Territorials, Felix Seymour, Geoffrey Seymour and Arthur SJicllam, were to-day each fined 10s for assaulting the drill instructor at Alexandra barracks. Accused were undergoing 28 days' military detention for a breach of the Defence Act.
