BLAZE AT BLENHEIM. By Telegraph—Press Association. Blenheim, Saturday. A five-roomed house in Hutcheson street, ownad by Mrs. Burke and occupied by \V. Tarrant, was totally destroy, ed by lire. The outbreak was caused by an eight-month-old child pulling a table-cloth from a table containing an oil lamp. Very little was saved. The insurances total £3BO. FIRE Ai.' TAIHAPE. Taihape, Saturday. A fire occurred at 2.15 this morning in a block of shops opposite the railway station, bwied by Mrs. Elliott Wilson and occupied by Dolan (restaurant) and Miss Doreen (fruiterer and confectioner), and Rice (restaurant). The brigade was promptly present to attack the outbreak, which had a good hold. There .was a splendid water pressure, and in a little of half an hour the brigade got the flames under. The damage to the buildings is about £4OO. Insurances 13(H) in the State. Dolan's stock and effects were uninsured and the loss is small. Dorcen'si insurance £.30 in the Norwich and £">o in the Commercial Union, exclusive of another £SO taKen out the previous day (total loss). Rice's . effects were insured for £flo in the Commercial Union. The origin was apparently a defective chimney. A MATCH FACTORY DESTROYED. Dunedin, Last night. The New Zealand Wax Vesta Company's factory at Caversliam was totally destroyed by fire this morning. The outbreak was discovered at 4.10, out the fire had then a strong hold, and though both the city and the Caversliam brigades attended, nothing was saved. The insurances amounted, it is understood" to £2500 in the Victoria and Royal Exchange offices, but their loss is estimaUM at £l,ioo more. There was about £BO worth of matches on the premises. Work was stopped at noon on Saturday, and nobody had been in the buildings since. The origin of the fire is a complete mystery.
