NEWTON KING'S WEEKLY REPORT. At Urenui on Monday, sth inst., I offered a small entry of sheep and cattle at a good attendance. Good conditioned cows and weaner heifers were in demand, but other lines were hard to quit. Prices realised were as follows:—Coloured weaner heifers, £2 10s to £2 lis 6d; grade weaner heifers, £1 15s to £2 ss; small weaner steers, 10s to £1 5s 6d; springing heifers, in demand, £5 17s 6d to £7 2s 6d; store cows, £2 17s to £3 13s; fat cows, £5 2s 6d to £6 8s; 18-montli3 to 2-year steers, £3 to £4. Lambs, 10s; culls, as; 2-tooth ewes, 10s; 4-tooth wethers, 15s 9d. At Rahotu on Tuesday ~Gth inst., there was a fair entry and attendance, and the majority of the lines were sold as follows; Coloured weaner heifers, £3 3s 6d; grade weaner heifers up to £2; weaner steers, £1 0s Od to £2 2s. according to, quality; mixed weaners, £1 7s Od to £1 13s Od; store cows, £2 0s to £3 15s Od; forward and fat cows, £4 15s to £5 8s; 20-months heifers, in calf, £4 ss; dairy bull, £4 ss. On Wednesday, 7th inst., for my Okau Autumn Sale there was a good entry of sheep and cattle, and a large attendance of the public from all parts. Competition .throughout was good for nearly all lines, the whole entry, with the exception of two small, lines of sheep, being cleared at the hammer at the following rates:—Weaner heifers, £1 17s; small mixqd weaners, 10s; store cows, £3 to £3 17s; forward and fat cow 3, £4 4s to £5 16s; empty 18-months heifers, £3 5s to £3lss; 18 to 20-months in calf heifers £4 lp;, bulls, £2 10s to £5 15s; 18 to 20months steers, £3 14s 6d; 2-year steers, £4 0s Gel; 2%-year steers, £4 18s; springing heifers, £0 2s Od. -Two, 4 and 6tootli wethers, I3s 2d; forward wethers, 15s 3d; lambs, 10s 3d, 9s 2d, 7s 6d. Private Sales for the Week.—Store cows, £3 6s; forward coWs, £4 12s 6d to £5 2s Od; fat cows,£s 15s to £6 18s 6d; Jersey empty heifers, £4 15s; dairy cows, £6 5s and £8 10s; bulls, £5 ss; mixed weaners, 35s to £2 4s; in calf well-bred .Holstein heifers, £10; coloured, in calf, 2'/o-year heifers, £7; 18 to 20-months steers, £3 14s; fat bullocks, £8 8s; 2 and 4-tooth wethers, 13s 6d to 14s; 4-tooth wetliers, 15s; f.m. ewes, 8s 9d; 4-tooth ewes (fine line), 16s 6d. Bth inst., when there was a fair yarding of 320 head of cattle and 286 sheep. Bidding was dull for all classes of stock, but some lines sold well, while others were neglected. The following prices were realised:—Store cows 40s for small and poor-conditioned cows up to 72s 6d for gooil stores; forward cows 90s up to 113s for fat cows; heifers in calf 80s to 100s for well-grown heifers; 2%-year steers 80s to 87s fld, 20' months steers 65s to 795, SO.-moriiha empty' heifers'62s 6d'-to 77s M; weaner steers (potfr'lajid smaH) ■ 24s tfrSos' 6d for good Shorthorn cattle*' mixed weaners 22s 6d to 345, weaner heifers showing Jersey and Holstein breeding up to 455, springing heifers up to 115s, aged ewes (good conditions) 12s 6d. During the week we have disposed of a fair amount of stock at average market values:—Weaner heifers 35s to 40s, 20-months empty heifers 65s to 70s, 20months steers up to 71s, in-calf heifers 77s fid to 105s (for well-grown heifers showing color), aged ewes 8s fid to lis 6d, 2-tooth ewes 13s up to 15s 3d, 4-tooth wethers 14s 3d to 14s 9d, lambs 8s 9d to 10s.
WEBSTER, DOBSON & CO.'S REPORT. At Strathmore on Monday we held our monthly sale and met a fair yarding of both sheep and cattle. There was a fair attendance, competition being on the slack side, several pens being unsold. We quote:—Weaners (small) £1 6s, lambs 8s 4d, sows 40s to 80s. At Stratford on Tuesday we had a full yarding of useful and saleable stock. There was a large attendance rind competition was fairly keen throughout, practical!}' every pen being sold at the hammer or after. We quote: Weaners (small) £1 3s to £1 7s Od, weaner steers 34s Od, do. heifers £2 2s, colored heifers, £2 19s Od, 18-months colored empty heifers £3 I4s to £4 Is, 18-months steers ,£2 17s to £3 16s Od, 2'/ 2 to 3-year incalf heifers £4 15s to £5 os, store cows (old) 24s to 40s, store cows 45s to £3, fresh-conditioned and forward cows £3 ,10s to £4 7s, fat cows £5 12s to £7 2s, dairy cows £0 to £B, springing heifers £4 17s 6d to £6 2s Od, mixed sheep. We report private sales as follows: Empty heifers £3 12s 6d, store cows 60s to 70s, mixed weaners 40s, Jersey weaner heifers 60s, colored '■ in-calf.heifers" £5, £6 18s, £B, £7 ss, £B, dairy cows £8 10s to £9 10s.
SOUTHERN MARKETS. ADDINGTON. The entries were not so large as they have been of late, there being a considerable falling-off in the yarding of store sheep. There was a good attendance, and store sheep again sold well, especially better sorts. Inferior sorts were a little easier, and fat lambs showed a sharp rise, in consequence of keen com- : petition between two export buyers. Fat sheep were firmer by about Is per head, and there was good sale for pigs. For store sheep the range of prices was:—Ewes 2-tooth (inferior to medium) 16s to 16s Id, 2, 4, 6 and 8-tooth 12s to 13s, 4, G and 8-tooth J2s 6d to 14s 6d, 4 and 6-tooth I4s 6d to las 6d, 6 and 8-tcioth I4s to 14s 7d, better sorts 16s to 16s 9d, fresh sound-mouth sorts (good) 14s 9d to 16s 2d, medium 13s to 14s, full "and failing-mouths 9s Od to ; lls, aged 7s to 9s 3d, culls 5s 3d. Forward rape lambs 13s 3d to 14s, extra to 10s lid, good average stores lis to lis Od, medium sorts 10s to 10s 3d. Wethers, 4 and 6-tooth (very forward) I7s 6d to 18s Id, 4-tooth. halfbreds 15s •3d to 15s 4d. The fat lamb range of prices was: Prime wethers 20s to 27s Od, extra to 295, lighter 17s to 19s Od, prime ewes 18s to 25s Od, medium 15s to 17s 6d, aged and light 10s 4d to 14s 6d, merino ewes 10s 35.. In fat cattle stoers made £7 10s to £ll 10s, extra to £lB (passed), heifers £s' 18s 6d to £S 7s fid, cows £5 to £9 I2s U. Beef made 21s to 29s per 1001b. fifteen to eighteen-months store cattle made £2 17s 6d to £3 ss, 2 1 / 2 -year steers £5 4s Od, 3-year steers -£6 to £6 7s, 3-year heifers £4 15s, cows 32s to 355, dairy cows £3 10s to £ll ss. There was a medium entry of pigs. Choppers made 50s to 80s, heavy baconers, 60s to 735, lighter 50s to 57s 6d (or equal to 5d to sM>d per lb). Heavy porkers realised 44s to 48s, lighter 38s to 43s (equal to 5%d to 0d lb.) Store pigs, large sorts, realised 36s to 445, medium 25s to 355, small stores 18s to 245, 'Weaners were also in good demand and brought 12s to 10s, the latter price being paid for a'very nice line of pigs.
> : JOHNSONVILLE. A good entry of bullocks and sheep was yarded, and sold readily at late ruling rates. Prime bullocks* £ll to £ll 7s 6d, lighter £lO to £lO 10s, vealers 23s to 48s, porkers 20s to 375, prime heavy wethers 19s 7(1, lighter 18s Id, prime heavy ewes 17s to 17s 7d, medium ewes 14s lOd to 15s (id, extra prime lambs 14s S)d to 15s, prime lambs 13s 6d to 14s Id. BURNSIDE. At Burnsidc 235 fat cattle were yarded, including a few pens of prime bullocks. At the start of the sale prie-js were from 10s to £2 lower than last week's rates, and, towards the finish, they were fully 30s down. Best bullocks £ll 10s to £l2 10s, good £9 10s to £lO 10s, best heifers £8 10s to £lO 17s 6d, good £6, 5s to £7 10s. Fat sheep—234l penned. The yarding included a fair number of good heavy sheep. Prices opened about Is above last week's rates, but eased off as the sale progressed, and, towards the close, values were down to those of last week. Extra heavy wethers to 30s 3d, best do. 22s 6d to 25s Od, good 20s to 21s, medium 18s to 19s, extra heavy ewes to 26s 3d best 18s to 235, good 10s Od to 17s 6d' medium lis to 13s 6d. Fat lambs—22Bo penned. Prices were about 9d per head above last week's rates. Extra heavy to 245, best 16s Od to 20s, lighter sorts 13s to 15s.
