NEW PLYMOUTH SOCIAL NEWS Afternoon Tea.—The Misses Fookes gave a delightful afternoon tea last Thursday afternoon in honor of theii cousin, Miss Skinner (Blenheim). During the afternoon songs and other musical items were contributed by Misses Taylor, Blundell, Armstrong and I Hirst, while the competition was won by Miss Skinner. Amongst those present were: Mrs._Fqokes, Misses Fookes (2), Skinner, Ferrier, Armstrong, Dempsey, Devenish] D. Simpson, A. Wilson, Blundell, Brewster, Bayley, I. Hirst, Wade, Saxton, C Douglas, C. Bayly, Boy (2), James, G. Shaw, D. Whitcombe, Thomson, and Mesdames F. E. Fookes, S. Griffiths, Ruler, H. Fookes and A. MacDiarmid Morning Tea.—The many friends of Miss Warren assembled together last Thursday, morning to bid her farewell and to wish her the best of luck prior to her departure to her new home in Taihape. Several happy'speeches were made, during which.Mr. Bradbury spoke in glowing terms of the spirited and kindly manner in which Miss Warren always came forward when help in anything in the musical world was needed. He then asked her to accept a presentation, which took, the form of a.,purse of sovereigns. Mr. Bradbury, ou behalf of Miss Warren, suitably responded, the party finally ending with everybody singing "Auld Lang Syne." Amongst- tho3e present were: JVlrs. Home,; Mrs,. PERSONAL ITEMS. Mrs. Gordon Eraser, who has been on a short visit to Wellington, has returned. Miss Jean Mackay, of New Plymouth is on a visit to Wellington. Mr. Athol Mclsaac, of the Union S.S. Co., has gone on a trip to Sydney. Rev. Mr. and Mrs. Colvile, who have been, on a visit to Rotorua, returned this morning by the Rarawa. Miss Sylvia Bayly has returned after a pleasant trip to Auckland. Miss Grant, of the High School staff is spending her term holidays in Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. C. MacDiarmid, who have been holiday-making in Wellington, spent a day in New Plymouth this week before returning to their home in Hamilton. Mr. and Mrs. W. Nicol (nee Miss Meta MacDiarmid) are spending their honeymoon in Christcliurch. Mtss Warren left yesterday morning for her future home in Taihape. < On Wednesday evening Mrs.' E. G Skelton, who is leaving with her husband on Monday for Invercargill, was farewelled by several of her lady friends Ine function took place at Mrs. Garner's and was very enjoyable and happy. Opportunity was taken of the occasion to present Mrs. Skelton with a thermos flask as a memento of her association with New Plymouth and of the good wishes of her many friends here
