THE LONDON- MARKETS. By Cable—Press Association— Copyright. Received 8, 9.15 p.m. London, May 8. The wool sales have closed. A total of 147,000 bales were catalogued, and m 000 sold on the Home market, 45,000 on the Continent, and 1000 for the United States. The tone of the market was steady and confident throughout. All sections of buyers supported merinos. The Yorkshire manufacturers were the principal operators in crossbreds, the Continental buyers supporting them towards the close. Prices for merinos generally closed at par with March closing rates. Wasty parcels were somewhat slow. Best sorts occasionally showed a hardening tendency. New Zealand greasies showed Id decline. Scoureds were strong on the market, especially pieces and locks, which advanced 5 to 7'/ 2 per cent. Fine greasy crossbreds generally were at par to 5 per cent, decline. Coarser grades were in strong demand at par to 5 per cent, advance. , Slipes advanced %d to Id. The prices for merino lambs were fully maintained. Crossbreds, especially faulties, barely, maintained values. The following are the prices realised for the fleece portions of the clips jiamed:—Kyeburg, top l-2V 2 d, average 10% d; Ponparai, lid and 10% d. Anning's report on the rabbitskin sales states that 1500 bundles were offered, and about 1300 sold. New Zealand thin-pelted winters were unchanged. Stout were a penny dearer. Cutting sorts were firm, and light racks unchanged. Kittens were irregular, and closed l ! /od cheaper.
