SLEPT IN A CAVE.
OLD MAN ARRESTED. PROBLEM FOR THE NAPIER POLICE. Napier, May 3. A very sad ease was mentioned at the this morning, when an old man nan.M George Alexander Scott Taylor was charged with being an idle and disorderly person, having insufficient lawful means of support. Mr. J. M. Thomson, M.P., was en the Bench. "I deny the charge," said Taylor, when asked by the clerk of the court wliefTier ke pleaded ''guilty" or '"not guilty." Sergeant Cumniings said the case was a sad one. Quite recently accused had been brought before the Magistrate on a similar charge, and was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called on. If Taylor slept out at night the police were to bring him before the court for sentence. "Well," said the sergeant, "ever since then he has been sleeping out, and last night lie was found sleeping in a cave in Hyderabad road. He has "

Sergeant Cummings: He has.practically no clothes, only a lot of old sacks. He is between seventy and eighty years of age, and considering the present state of the weather, I think something should be done with him. The Old People's Home authorities will not take him. He has been there nine times, but as soon as they wash and clean him, he marches off. He says he is the first white man living who was born in the North Island.
