Johannesburg, February 27,

At the annual meeting of the Chamber of Mines, the president, Mr. Elkan, stated that the total dividends from the mining industry in 1912 amounted to £11,340,025, and were distributed as follows: • Gold mines £8,284,077 Diamond' mines 360,000 Collieries 292,874 Tin mines 108,700 Finance companies .. 2,204,374 The total diamond production had been 2,131,400 carats, valued at £2,380,970, for which the Premier Mine had been responsible for 2,047,185 carats, as against 1,800,000 carats for 1911. The Premier mine had declared dividends amounting to £300,000 —an increase of £OO,OOO. The coal production of the Transvaal had increased from 4,343,080 tons in 1911 to 4,751,850 tons.
