TARANAKI COUNTY COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING. The Taranaki County Council met yesterday, the chairman (Mr. C. J. Brown) presiding. Other members present were: Cra. 11. Stevens, M. Hopson, C. Billing, C. Andrews, D. MeAllum, A. Morton, J. Andrews and J. R. Hill. TRACTION EXGINE TRAFFIC. Mr. A. H. Johnstone waited on the Council bn behalf of- Messrs Johnson Bros, with reference to traction engine traffic on the Main South road. He i suggested that an agreement be entered into between the Council and his clients, similar to that existing between the Council and Mr. Simons on the Carrington road, whereby the owner of the engine pays to the Council, monthly, a sum representing the estimated damage as computed by the Council's inspector. As the outcome of the discussion, the proposal was agreed to, on the motion ' of Crs. Morton and J. Andrews. SPECIAL ORDERS CONFIRMED. The Council confirmed the special order altering the boundaries of the Waitara West and. Moa road districts. The special order merging the Ucnui road district was also confirmed. BOUNDARIES ALTERED.' The Assistant Under-Secretary of the Department of Internal Affairs forwarded a copy of the report of the Commissioners with reference to the proposed ' alteration of the boundaries of the borough of AVaitara. The commissioners { recommended the exclusion of the follow- ' ing lands only, on the grounds that, as ' far as they could sec, they were likely to remain farm lands for many years ! to come:—AVaitara AA T est, sections'2, 3, ' 4, 7, 8, 5, 0, 10, 11, 13, 14, 17, 18, 19, 20 ' and 21; AVaitara East: Sections 5.-6, 7,-. . 24,. 25, 20. and 30, and both parties of sections 31 and : 32'. AVaiongona , bridge, Lepperton, required 250 feet of • Oft by oft decking . Omata Riding: The metalling on the AA'airaka road had been commenced and was well on the way to completion. Mr. A. Cowling had agreed to deliver 100 yards boulders on the South road between Blue Gums and Mrs. Crompton's gate. Pipes for culvert asked for by Foreman Seamark were required across a private roadway leading to the butter faetorv. Okato ri(iing.--The additions to the. Puniho toll-house were completed; (124 vards of metal had been put on the road at Okato. The crushing plant left the foundry on April 18, and had been crushin" G'A days at Kaihihi depot. Inc crusher driver, V. Adolph had left the Council's service on Saturday, May 3. The roller left the foundry on April 19 and had worked four days at Okato, but owing to a breakdown in the gearin", would not be able to start until Thursday, May 1. Owing to the excessive traffic, Foreman D. Brosnan would require 000 vards metal on his length and Foreman T. Sefton 300 yards. The work authorised on the Upper Carrmgton road had been completed satisfactorily. Mr. 11. J. Blanchard would take up the metal contract on Carrington road at Cfi 2s 8d per chain. Following on the inspector's report, it was decided that the recommendations with regard to the Moa and AVaitara ridings he given effect to, and that the completed portion of the King road metalling contract be taken over. J. Blanchett at the same price. With regard to the Mangorei riding, it was decided to grant J. H. Magee i4s per chain for the extra fourteen chains to be metalled in the Upper Maiigorei riding, and that the pipes required on the junction road near Lethbridge's be procured. ]t was also decided to repair the bridge on Alfred road. In accordance with the report of the inspector, several lessees of county reserves were given one month's notice to eradicate noxious weeds on their properties, to the satisfaction of the inspector, failing which the Council would take steps to re-enter into possession of the reserves. GENERAL. Nine Mangorei settlers petitioned the Council to give them permission to erect a shed on the. end of the Mangorei-Car- • rington cross road, where it joined the Carrington road, for the purpose of storing any heavy goods the settlers might have carted out by Mr. Simons' traction engine.—Permission granted. Mr. F. P. Corkill wrote accepting the appointment as the Council's assessor on the revision of valuation rolls for the Omata ridiug and outlying districts of Mangorei and Waitara. The District Railways Engineer notified that the boarded sides of the overi head bridge at Sentry Hill would be removed. The borough soliictors advised that Messrs Mace and Penwarden's lands on ' the Main South road at Omata had been proclaimed a road. The inspector was instructed to proceed with the erection of a concrete bridge over the Makara stream on Junction road east. ACCOUNTS. Accounts as follows were passed for payment:—Administration £353, Moa riding £3(38, Waitara £155, Omata £l9O, Okato £3OO. Hiirvvorth £321, a total of £1690.
