DISTRICT NEWS.

TATARAIMAKA. j (From Our Own Correspondent). j We have lately been favored witli wea- ] ther of the finest description. Consequently all our farmers have been bust* ling to get their ploughing and sowing through before a final break in the weather. The supply of milk is going down with a run, the cows evidently thinking it the wisest plan to keep a good reserve in store for another season. We are fortunate in having excellent men to manage our local creameries, which in these days of constant changes is no inconsiderable boon. ' One of our settlers has been very successful in growing tomatoes and pumpkins, his pumpkins turning the scale at 251bs, while off one tomato plant he took 171bs of tomatoes. Our annual householders' meeting took place on Monday night. This name is, I think, more honored' in the breach I than in the observance, although we ' managed to secure a good committee. In addition to the five sitting members, viz., Messrs Hawkins, Luckin, Morris, Smith and Mrs. Dougherty, Messrs Aisli and Collins were added, making seven of a committee instead of five, as formerly. Mr. Morris, who has been chairman for the past year, decided not to accept the position for the ensuing term, and so proposed Mr. Hawkins. The latter then requested Mrs. Dougherty to accept the honor. That lady decided against doing so, the chief reason being that Mr. Hawkins, living so very close to the school, his services could at all times be available if required. Mr. Luckin was reappointed treasurer, and to sign cheques with the chairman, while the teacher, Mr. Turner, was re-appointed secretary. Thus endeth the first lesson of the New Year's school management, and, judging by the very satisfactory results achieved during the past year, everyone should be satisfied. The new committee decided on having a school concert for prizes on Thursday, May 15, and all hope for favorable weather for the event.
