MOTOR ARMY RESERVE.

A NEW ORGANISATION. Auckland, April 25. Advice received from Wellington this morning stated that the Governor had approved of the formation of a New Zealand motor reserve of officers, the establishment to consist of a colonel and 117 other officers. A 1 reporter subsequently obtained from the president qf the Auckland Automobile Association (Mr. Melville Newcombe) some particulars of the scheme. He expressed appreciation of the Governor's action in sanctioning the project, and remarked that the initiation of the scheme was due to the foresight and activity of an Auckland citize:n—namely, Mr. Arthur Myers, who, .in Jiis former capacity as Minister of Defence, had given the matter much attention. The. Motor ..Anny Reserve is to consist of officers only', and none will'be eligible for appointment who are attached to the Territorials, senior cadets, rifle clubs, etc., which indicates that the creation of the reserve will not interfere with any existing organisation. Each officer will need to possess a thoroughly reliable car, and to have a thorough' working knowledge of same. The reserve will be administered by a lieutenant-colonel of the Territorial Force, who will be responsible to the quartermaster-general, assisted by a staff officer, who will be appointed from the Permanent Forces of the Dominion." Upsides the lieutenantcolonel, there will be oin staff officer, i 16 majors, 32 captains, a'id the balance will be lieutenants. Officers of the reserve will be expected in render seven days' active service during the year, either consecutively or on half-day parades. As far. as possible, they will bo called on for service in the neighborhood of their place of residence. They must be between the ages of 21 years and 50 years, and thev will be retired at the age of 60 years. Allowances while on active service will be made to the officers of between eight and fifteen shillings per day, and when the distance covered exceeds 60 miles per day it small mileage allowance will be made in addition. Til the first place appointments will be recommended by the General Officer Commanding, and afterwards promotions will be made as vacancies occur. It is thought that the reserve cars will be utilised mainly for the conveyance of officers and the carriage of despatches.
