EAHOTU. I (From Our Own Correspondent). I The annual school picnic was held on the Recreation Grounds on Wednesday last, and quite a large number attended, hplendid weather prevailed, the children enjoying themselves immensely. The social to welcome the Rev Mr anil Mrs. Tinsley took place on Friday' and quite an enjoyable evening was spent. °
On Saturday a big meeting of West Coast leaseholders was held in the Road .Board office to consider the advisability of sending a representative to interview the Native Minister in connection with the leases, also to endorse the action of the Rev. Addenbrooke in canvassing the district for funds, over £SO being collected). Mr. Tylee presided. Afte? a great deal of discussion it was decided to leave the matter of sending a representative to Wellington in abeyance. On the motion of Mr. T. P. Hughson, a coml mittee, consisting of the following was appointed to work in conjunction with I ° tllcrs in hying to get the freehold:Messrs O'Rorke, Looney, Young, Tylee' Hughson, Green, M. Fleming, Clothier' Jennie and Rev. Addenbrooke. The Rev' Addenbrooke was appointed treasurer. lhe shooting season opens on Thursday but whether there will be any birds to shoot is another question, as so many shots have been heard around that-are not fired by the local Gun Club.
