SCHOOL COMMITTEES
A PROTEST FROM FRANKTON. Per Press Association. Hamilton, Monday The Prankton householders refused last night to elect a school committee and left the schoolhouse in a body, as a protest against the action of the Auckland Education Board in so arranging the boundaries that half the township, including the main street, was taken into the Hamilton West district. (From Our Own Correspondents.) TARIKI. There were nine householders present, the following being elected a committee: Messrs J. Therkleson (chairman), N. Stephenson, E. Grossman, A. Coutts, D. Blanchard, L. Gernhoefer and W. H. Rudkin. Mrs. Jemison was appointed secretary. The balance showed the income to have been £34 fls «Jd and the expenditure £22 15s sd, leaving a balance of £ll 14s 4d. RAHOTU. Quite a large crowd attended the householders' meeting on Monday night. Mr. P. Willcox. was voted to the chair, and the voting resulted as follows: G. Tylee 28, H. Phillips 30, A. Chapman 27, F. Ward 28, A. Fellder 26, A. Neilson 28, T. Fleming 15, J. Clark 12, F. Newport 10. The first seven were duly elected The committee afterwards met and appointed Mr. A. Chapman chairman and Mr. F. Ward secretary. LINCOLN ROAD. About 25 householders were present. The following committee was elected:— Messrs R. D. Barford (chairman), 0. M. Boldt (secretary), G. Henwood, C. Owen, J. Henwood and Mesdames G. Henwood and L. Broadmore. HURFORD ROAD. The householders' meeting was held in the local'schoolroom'on Monday night, there, being eight present. The following committee was elected:—Messrs A. Smith (re-elected chairman), F. Higgins, F. Meyers, H. Loveridge and G. Spence. LEPPERTON. The annual meeting was attended by I ten householders. The balance-sheet showed a satisfactory balance. The chairman (Mr. H. B. Lepper) made complimentary references to the work of the teachers, Miss Price and Mr. W. A. Brown. He also spoke in highly eulogistic terms of the able way in which Mr. Roberts (the secretary) had carried out his duties. A good deal of dissatisfaction was expressed at only six marks
out of ten being awarded by tbe inspectors for "special effort." It was pointed out that during the past two years the shelter shed had been enlarged to more than double its size, that the floor of the shed had been asphalted, a hedge planted, and wire-netted in for protection; the school garden fenced, j pines topped, and last, but -not least, the playing-grOuhd levelled and made decent for the to play on. To ! carry out'this work the committee and [ teachers had raised funds by means of concerts. Yet for all this '"special effort" only one mark extra had been awarded in the past two years. The following gentlemen were elected to serve on the committee for the coming year-.—Messrs Lepper (chairman), Roberts (secretary), Hoskin, Crofskey, Munro, Plarris and Thornley. KENT ROAD. Mr. Rowlands was re-elected chairman and secretary, with Messrs H. Lethbridge, G. M. Morecraft, C. Southcombe X. Rundle, J. Batten and J. A. Batten forming the committee. UPPER MAXGOREI. Xo committer was elected for the Upper Mangorei School. LOWER MANGOREI. Messrs G. W. Herbert (ehainnui), E. Xorman, G. AV. Stanton and Mesdames Norman and Stanton were elected. TOKO. At Toko, Messrs Geo. Bali (chairman), G. E. Bocock (secretary), M. Gernhoefer, T. A. Lees, .7. Kil'patrick, W. Pratt and A. Ferguson were eb'cted. OKATO. Messrs J. Wooldridge (chairman), J S. Fox, S. A. Dailey, AV. Clarke, W. G. Sheppard, T. C. Street and D. Hickford were elected. A'GAERE. At Ngaere, Messrs X. Jones (chairman, A. E. AA'ickham (secretary), and Phillips, Triielovc, Kenyon, Tecofskey and Hollard were appointed for the ensuing year. KORU. F. Aroa (chairman), A. Looney, E. Rowell, P. Fitzsimmons and Mrs. Bishop were appointed. MIDHIRST. At Midhirst, Messrs AA 7 m. Mountford (chairman), Geo. Smith, David Brown, J. R. Shotter, Frank Carter, Wm. Hamblyn and C. E. Seabright were elected to the committee. :;fi,i:-;;UiJ»'» OPUXAKE. A good many attended the meeting, following are the results:—D. Markham, Charles Malcolm, .]. Mihlenhall, G. Looney, J. Dudley. M. Kinofloek and C. A. Trotter. Mr. Charles Malcolm was re-elected chairman, and Mr. J. Dudley secretary. HUIRAXftT. The following were elected a committee for the ensuing year:—Messrs. F. Y. Andrews (chairman), J. H. Smith, Mrs. Turnlmll, S. Sarten, J. Xicoll, F. Lovcridge, P. Surrey. RAUPLTHA. Tlie following were elected a committee for the ensuing year:—Messrs. T. A. Bocock (chairman). 'j. A 7. Shield (secretary and treasurer), J. AV. Burkitt, R. IT. Gatenbv, AV. Colson, H. Neilson, AV. 13. Smith. " TOXGAPORUTU. A meeting of householders was held in the Hall here on Monday evening. Only five householders put in an appearance. Three of the committee. Messrs. T. J. Chapman, 11. O'Donnell. T. B. AA'aters j only were present. After a. lengthy dis- ! oussion as to the standing of school committees generally, the meeting broke up, those present declining to be nominated. Accounts amounting to ffi Is 8d wero passed for payment, and the balanceshept, from the past picnic showed J> credit balance of £1 18s 10(1.
