A message .from Tokio states that Mr. Nakainura Ryoshu, Judge of the Taiku district of Korea, has committed suicide in extraordinary circumstances. He was a man of the highest moral character, and of almost martinet disposition. Recently he discovered that certain subordinate officials under his control were guilty of bribery and corruption, and secured their dismissal from the service. In revenge, they combined to charge the judge with a similar offence, and defamatory stories were widely spread, damaging his character. The judge in desperation determined to commit harakari as a public protest against the prevailing corruption rife in the Government service, and on the closing of the courts for the New Year vacation, he dressed himself in his official robes and committed old-time hari-kari before the portrait of Meiji Tenno. He left behind him, according to custom, a will indicative of his reasons, and stating that his suicide was a protest against the prevailing corruption in official quarters, and an expression of hopelessness of preserving the sanctity of the law or successfully administering justice under the administration of Count Terauchi. The charges which were brought against the judge by his dismissed subordinates were investigated and proved to be false.
