FIRES.
'A BLAZE AT WESTPORT. Per Press Association. ■!■••■'!■ I » Westport, Last Night. A fire occurred at five o'clock this morning in the premises owned by Mrs. Carrick and oeeupiediby Carey as a fish shop. The fire destroyed the back portion of the building and the stock. It extended to the adjoining premises, also owned by Mrs. Carrick, and occupied by Mrs. Palmer, stationer, doing damage to the ceiling. The fire also extended in the opposite direction, doing some damage to a building owned by Mrs. Green, and occupied by J. C. Young, auctioneer, on the ground floor, and Misses Gordon and Bird, tea-rooms, on the second floor. The ceiling of the kitchen of the latter was burnt through and considerable damage done by water and smoke. Most of the damage done to Young's was by smoke and water. The tatter's premises were the scene of a recent fire. Carey has £2OO insurance on his stock and furniture in the Guardian office, Mrs. Palmer £CflO in different offices on her stock, which is much damaged by smoke, Mrs. Carrick £3OO on the building occupied by Carey in the Commercial Union office, and it is also understood' that Palmer's building Is insured.
